Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, the windstorm caused by Hurricane Ike in 2008, and H1N1 in 2009-10, communities across the nation have been pulling together to improve their level of disaster preparedness. Public safety and emergency management agencies, as well as the health care community, have forged relationships with their communities to become better prepared. Are you willing to serve your community and neighbors in the event of an emergency?

Hamilton County Public Health and your local community are looking for volunteers to join the Tristate Medical Reserve Corps. As a registered volunteer, you can be called quickly to assist your community in a crisis.

The Tristate Medical Reserve Corps (TMRC) is looking for both medical and non-medical volunteers. An emergency with which your community may need assistance includes: tornadoes, floods, winter storms, shelters, alternative care sites, reception centers and Point of Dispensing Sites (PODS). PODS are locations where medications or vaccines will be distributed to residents in Hamilton County. It will be opened if many people within our community have been exposed to a disease that may make them sick. In order to prevent this disease from further infection, the Health Department and your local community will dispense antibiotics or a vaccine. In order to reduce travel, wait time and provide a familial location Hamilton County will have many community-level PODS.

Hamilton County and the TMRC are in need of volunteers. Through the TMRC you will receive an orientation, credentialing, identification badge and ongoing training. The TRMC provides liability protection and is a national program of the Office of Health and Human Services under the direction of the Surgeon General. This is a volunteer program that only requires that you train once every three years (to include classroom, exercise/drills, online, etc.). You can choose the locations at which you would like to volunteer.  You can volunteer strictly in your county, contiguous counties, within the state or nationally.  To register as a volunteer, please go to Ohio Responds and fill out the online registration.
