Fall Prevention
Hamilton County Fall Prevention Task Force
Falling is a serious health risk for residents of Hamilton County and is a leading cause of injury-related deaths. In fact, 2008 injury data for Hamilton County residents shows that falls are the leading cause of injury hospitalizations and emergency department visits for residents of all ages. The risk for fall-related injuries and deaths increases with age: 68 percent of fall injuries result in hospitalization and 84 percent of fall-related deaths were in persons over the age of 65. In 2000, the Hamilton County Public Health organized the Hamilton County Fall Prevention Task Force (FPTF) to address this issue.
The FPTF is comprised of 24 individuals representing a variety of government agencies, not-for-profit organizations and businesses in Hamilton County. The FPTF consists of two work groups: Communication and Evaluation. In 2002 the FPTF was recognized for its efforts with an award for Outstanding Project Achievement by the Association for Professionals in the Field of Aging.
- Mission: To reduce falls and fall-related injuries in older adults through community collaboration, awareness, education and effective interventions.
