Hamilton County Public Health has hired Laura Laake to a new position charged with working on the public health response to the opioid epidemic in Hamilton County.

Laake will work on county-wide mobilization on a number of programs related to prescription drug overuse, misuse, abuse and overdose. In the immediate future, she will work to develop a system to capture drug abuse data and integrate it into a comprehensive community action plan. She will also develop and implement strategies to expand naloxone education and distribution programs while working with medical professionals to adopt pain management prescribing guidelines.

Laake holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters of Nursing Administration from Xavier University. She spent the past 16 years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in emergency, hospice and administration roles.
