Keep Cool During Extreme Heat

July 18, 2019

Hamilton County, OH – The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued an Excessive Heat Watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. Heat index values will be near or above 105. The heat will be most impactful Friday afternoon into the evening and Saturday afternoon into the evening.

With the weather expected to reach these dangerously hot temperatures this weekend, it is important for residents to be prepared, know where they can go to get out of the heat, and steps they can take to stay safe. If residents are in need of a place to keep cool, they should consider visiting a restaurant, shopping mall, community center, or a local library.

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is welcoming those who would like a place to cool down, and encourages residents to visit their local library branch during normal business hours. Residents can find their nearest library location and hours of operation by visiting: https://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/info/hours.asp.

Stay safe this weekend by drinking plenty of water and limiting outdoor activity. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks out of the sun or in the air conditioning, and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Be sure to check on older adults who may not have access to air conditioning and always remember to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

For updated weather and safety information you can visit www.hcready.org. We also encourage residents to sign up for Alert Hamilton County and Smart911 by visiting www.alerthc.org.
