Hamilton County Public Health has been helping to serve, educate, and protect the residents since 1919.

Caracole

Caracole’s prevention program provides FREE, anonymous or confidential HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) testing for the community. We conduct testing in our Northside office and throughout Hamilton County along with education and prevention services to at-risk populations. We focus our community outreach on men who have sex with men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), and commercial sex workers. Caracole’s testing program consists of:

  • Free, rapid (results in 20 minutes) anonymous HIV testing
  • Free, rapid (results in 20 minutes) confidential Hepatitis C (HCV) testing

HIV Testing experience

HIV testing is conducted as either an oral swab, or as a finger stick blood test. If you have eaten, drank, chewed gum, or smoked within 15 minutes of sample collection a finger stick blood sample is required. Expect the process from arrival to departure to take 20 to 25 minutes.

HCV Testing experience

HCV testing is always as a finger stick. Expect the process from arrival to departure to take 20 to 25 minutes.

The UC Early Intervention (EIP) provides free, confidential HIV testing and counseling at the Emergency Department (ED) at University Hospital. Testing is available to ED patient during their visits. Testing is also available to the general public, appointments preferred. Please call to confirm counselor availability. For HIV-positive individuals who are not receiving HIV medical care, the EIP also provides linkage services to facilitate initiation of HIV medical treatment. Please call for more information on linkage services.

Care

Living well with HIV/AIDS is entirely possible with proper care and treatment. Many local resources are available to help get into stable housing, cover medical expenses, and get access to life saving treatment.
